Psychotherapy can be seen as a longer term process, enabling you to explore the underlying patterns of relating that you have developed and the implications of the ways in which these recur in your current life. Current circumstances can often stir up past memories and ways of being and it is often difficult to make sense of these alone, perhaps leaving you feeling stuck and confused.
During regular weekly sessions you will be encouraged to reflect upon whatever is on your mind. This may be thoughts, feelings, memories, wishes, fears and dreams and these can be explored to bring about new perspectives. Many difficulties remain unconscious. They are often linked to our early experiences and relationships and repeated throughout our lives. These early patterns of relating often arise in the therapeutic relationship and can be talked about and understood in new ways, thus bringing about a greater self-awareness and through this, change.
